Paid TrafficAlthough you can pay for banner ads to run on large web sites when we talk about paid advertising we usually mean pay per click (PPC).PPC advertising is where you bid on a search phrase (keyword) at a search engine. If you make the highest bid then your ad will be shown at the top of the listings when a searcher uses the keyword that you have bid on. You will be charged for that click, the price will be one penny more than the second highest bid price. You can see this in action below with a screen shot from Yahoo.
The top listing with a bullet point beside it is a sponsored listing. Yahoo allow up to 4 sponsored listings at the top of the page. So in this instance we could get our ad in the number two position for the Yahoo minimum bid of 10p. And if we bid 10p then the existing listing would pay 11p for each click regardless of his bid price. Every search engine has the facility for sponsored listings with the majority of search engines ads supplied by either Google or Yahoo* If you would like help or advice in setting up a PPC campaign then please complete our contact form to arrange an initial consultation.
